8th Anniversary Giveaway: Guess the Piggy Bank Total!

8th Anniversary Giveaway: Guess the Piggy Bank Total!

28 Jul, 2024

Entry into the giveaway is now closed! We're thrilled to announce the winners listed below.

Watch the Piggy Bank smashing open.

We counted up all the coins, then took them to the bank and exchanged them for notes. A glance at this image below instantly rules out those who guessed the total as under $100 or over $3,000! There was quite a range of guesses!

My daughter kept an eye on the guesses as they rolled in over the last fortnight, highlighting those who came close until finally, we had our top ten winners.

The total amount in her Piggy Bank was $360.60

I'm hosting a giveaway to celebrate The Happy Saver’s 8th Anniversary.

This isn't just any ordinary giveaway. With her creative flair, my daughter made a paper mache piggy bank way back in 2021. It’s taken three long years of her (and anyone visiting with spare coins jingling in their pocket) diligently filling it up, and now it’s time to break it open and see just how much she’s saved.

To enter to win one of the prizes, all you need to do is be a subscriber to The Happy Saver (Subscribe here if you are not already a subscriber) and take a wild guess at the total amount inside the piggy bank. (Entry form below) Prizes up for grabs this year are some fantastic personal finance books, two one-year subscriptions to PocketSmith’s Flourish Plan, two one-year subscriptions to Sharesight’s Investor Plan and, for a local winner, lunch with Jonny and I at our favourite cafe here in Alexandra.

Thank YOU for reading my blog, listening to the podcast, emailing me, and providing such a supportive environment to work in. Motivation is a two-way street. I help many people out, but the simple act of doing that keeps me motivated to keep going, too! A special thank you to anyone who has followed from the start. You are amazing! It blows my mind that The Happy Saver is now eight years old. WOW.

I can't wait to see your guesses! I’ll give you one hint: there were only two $5 notes; the rest were coins…

Happy guessing, everyone!

Prizes up for grabs:

The Happy Saver 8th Anniversary Giveaway Prizes

Two copies of The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins. I credit this book as the catalyst for our investing journey, and it remains the one I recommend the most. If you only ever read one book on investing, let it be this one.

One copy of The Barefoot Investor by Scott Pape. This is the book that others are most likely to read when they are first turning their attention to sorting out their money. It’s an informative, informal, plain English read for all ages.

One copy of Die With Zero by Bill Perkins. For those well on their way to financial independence, this book helps you decide how to use your money, not just save it. There is no point in being the richest person in the graveyard; this shows you how to enjoy the money you worked so hard to accumulate.

One copy of Breaking Free From Broke by George Kamel. I consider this the U.S. version of The Barefoot Investor. It is informal, chatty, and helpful for those trying to decide where to begin, and it will lead you to all of the Ramsey Show resources to get you on your way.

PocketSmith and Sharesight have kindly donated the following:

Two one-year subscriptions to PocketSmith’s Flourish Plan (for new and existing users). The books above gave me the financial knowledge I needed, and PocketSmith gave me the tools to manage my money. It's an exceptionally useful tool to manage all aspects of our money, and I can’t see myself ever being without it.

Two one-year subscriptions to Sharesight’s Investor Plan (for new users and users currently on a free plan). When you begin to invest in the share market, the big question is whether it works. Is your wealth growing? Is your investment strategy correct? Sharesight does all the math for you, showing you the value of your investments as time progresses. It remains an incredibly useful tool in my financial toolkit.

Bonus Giveaway

If you can get to Alexandra, Central Otago, Jonny and I will take you out for lunch and a chat at our favourite cafe. Allow two hours - I’m very chatty 😉
